I feel that in my animation what worked well was the variety of movements and range of different shots. I liked the baseline animations I did, I feel that due to the use of my references I managed to get the animations to look quite natural and realistic. In particular I am proud of the final shot I animated with all the different movements of the background characters. I’m proud of how I managed to get all the characters to look like they are in the same scene (same size etc) as it is normally something that I struggle with.
What didn’t work I felt was that my animations showed a lack of weight. when I reviewed my animations they didn’t demonstrate weight properly, for example when Philip sets the box down. The box doesn’t appear to be as heavy as I planned it to be, which is something I’m going to need to go and do proper research into. As to learn how to show weight in animations I am going to be watching YouTube tutorials and of course, practising . What I felt also didn’t work was the speed of some movements and shots. For example, going back to the setting the box down shot, I felt that the movements of the rats were too quick and that they went by too fast that the viewer may not have been able to grasp what they were. Also in the shot where Philip hits the cowbell, In the reference video I seem to have held the objects really weirdly and that unfortunately translated into my final product.
I loved working in my group with my team members. It was amazing being able to bounce ideas around with the creative progress and whenever when storyboarding out the shots it was amazing that when I got stuck I could rely on my group to help. In fact without the group there was no chance that it could have turned out as well as it did as they had such cool shot ideas and were so endlessly creative and the addition of Mia into the story made it a thousand times better than anything I could have done.
Although if i were to restart the module i would have wished to have begun sooner with my group and perhaps increased communication with my group. As I would have liked to have done the animation sooner so that I could have done more of the colouring. I do also wish that we could have created more assets and shared the workload a bit better.
In the future I want to improve at being faster at animation and figuring out a way to have streamlined my process, although perhaps just improving my art skills generally would help me get faster. I need to research making movements smooth but still fast without being slow. I also wish to practice smear frames as I think it could heavily help my animations. What I did like about my progress that I’m going to keep is my method of colouring as it speed lines my progress. What I do is I focus on one section, like the face, and do the skin colour on all the frames then going back to the start and focusing on a different section.
