Penny Review

This assignment really made me work hard on understanding blender and how it all works to create a character. It made me understand why you shouldn’t use sculpting raw on the model, as it filled my model with triangles and that over complicated my design. One of the main things it taught me was how to combine models and join the vertices together to make a singular strong model. I liked how the textures came out. Unfortunately there were some things i disliked, i had great difficulty with the armature and i’m not really sure what caused it but with the amount of times i’ve had to recreate models and armature in blender over the course of this project i have thoroughly learned that the best solution to most issues it to just start over again as it is faster and less complicated. This just forces me to figure out different ways to make models as to avoid making the same mistakes again, or seeing if a different way to make it would create a smoother model, or less complicated faces. I found studying genndy to be helpful in this assignment as I was able to use references from hotel transylvania to model my character, especially with the hands as I brought up images of the hands in hotel transylvania to figure out how best to make the hands. What I struggled with was the armature as previously mentioned, and I struggled to sort out sending it into  substance painter as I kept exporting the two uvs together.. I also had difficulty with posing due to a setting but it ended up being fine once I fixed it. If i were to redo it with more knowledge i would have liked to add more texture as height, didn’t add any actual height to my project, i wish the stitches stroud out a little bit. I also wish the different fabrics created little divots in the model. I also would have liked it if I could have made fluff stand out from where the needles stick in but I wasn’t able to figure it out in time so I did not achieve that unfortunately. I also wish I could have made some sort of animation on the liquid in the liquid in the syringe. I also wish that they string arms could have come out smoother, even though i tried to smooth it out with benevel after posing. I did really like the marks on the syringe and I wish the detail from that could have been carried out onto the main body but I suppose the more simple look increases the look of being from hotel transylvania which was the intention, so it’s just my personal opinion. I also wish I could have parented specifically the top and bottom of the bits of sewing so that when I posed it the string would stretch rather than move its place on the model. I also dislike that the ribbon on the back appears too dark to show its texture much for some reason so if i did it again i’d make that part of the texture lighter and more easy to see. In Fact i’d likely make the whole thing more vibrant.
