IXD301 Wk9:- Creating Element Mock-Up

This week I began creating a high resolution mock-up for my elemental game.

I decided that I was going to design my game to be for a Tablet/IPad as it is something that most kids have nowadays and that they use actively. Most kids have tablets rather than computers so I thought that this would be the best item for my elemental game to be on.

While designing I had to keep this in mind as I wanted everything to be similar so it meant that the same size had to be used for everything and I had to ensure that I was only designing on landscape pages.

I started with trying to recreate the sketch that I had drawn within Figma. I tried to follow my original sketch as closely as possible using lines, points and planes to recreate the neighbourhood that I had drawn.

The neighbourhood would be the main piece of my game as it is what would link everything together as I intend to use it as a backdrop throughout

I used the game image for the homepage as well as I blurred the image and then added the text over it. It was my thinking that this way it would be kept simple and the kids would be able to almost sort of see the game before they play it.

There is then the option for the user to start the game or to see the rules first depending on if they are new to the game or not.

Once I had the actual game part done next I went on to creating the element fact sheets. For this I chose that I would keep the format simple and that all 5 would be the same. They would each say the element, the symbol, the atomic number, periodic group and what everyday item it can be found in.

I tried not too add too much about the periodic table as even though kids between the ages of 8-10 are capable of reading it all I did not want to overwhelm them with facts and information about the periodic table so I thought it would be best to keep it simple and light.

I imagined it to be that once the element is selected in the game a pop up would appear with the information for the kids to read.

For the rules section I just wrote it out clearly over a blurred and blackened image of the game. This way the user can easily see all the rules and read it.

All Together:

With that I was done my first draft/high resolution mock-up of my element game
