In preparation for my presentation I thought I would take a look at the infamous Steve Jobs 2007 presentation when the iPhone was introduced to the world.

What I learned:-

Steve Jobs meets all the criteria that is considered to make a good presentation.

Steve Jobs tells a good story, his presentation has a beginning a middle and a end. Jobs ensures that a picture is painted with his presentation and that both he and the audience know what the picture is.

The presentation was well planned and prepared for, everything seemed to go to plan. The slide that were used were very well made, they were consistent throughout, in style, language, design etc. The timings were good and the number of slides used was perfect. Everything was done in the right amount leading to a seamless presentation that flowed really well.

Jobs was very well informed about the product he was marketing, at no point was there room to say “He seems unsure” or “that doesn’t sound right”. That is why it is very important to be informed about what every the presentation should be about. Any question in regards to the presentation should be able to be easily answered.

Through the presentation Jobs created a rapport with the audience. No flash cards or notes were read off of and eye contact was kept. Humour was used at certain points such as when Jobs was gonna first show the iPhone but instead showed a device that would be a horrible phone. This was a way for Jobs to connect with the audience. Watching the presentation almost felt like listening to a friend talk. It all felt very relax and casual and almost as if a conversation was happening between myself and Steve Jobs.

There was so many things done well within this presentation to the point that it is still being referenced over 10 years later. This goes to show how Steve Jobs presentation was memorable. it was something that made a mark and stuck with people. Had the presentation not gone as successful as it was perhaps Apple would not be where it is today.
