Today we began to look at run cycles, and how essentially its the same process to walk cycles only we animate on 1s instead of 2s and that both feet are never on the ground together . Alec supplied us with this image to help us create our poses for our run cycle:

This was really useful when keyframing the key poses. I created my own run cycle based of this:

My attempt was good but it was a little jumpy and needed some improvement on the in-between frames.

2D – run cycle

I created a basic run cycle in 2D just which helped me get a better understanding of timing and movements for runs which I can then apply to my 3D runs.

3D – run cycle

I wasn’t happy with the run cycle that I originally did so I looked at some references to help me better understand the timing and weight of the character. I felt like the run wasn’t really leaping upwards as much as I would have liked.

I really like the leap in the middle of this jump so I thought I would use this image as reference to pose my character to see how my run looked.
