Week 10 was an interesting week, not too much happened this week as I wanted to focus on just making the body of the squid and getting is as accurate as possible.
To start off the week, we looked into what a multiresolution modifier is, and how it is basically the gateway into being able to sculpt with ease.
CLASS:
For this week’s class assignment, we were provided with an elephant head that had already been modelled, but needed to be sculpted and have detail added to it. At first this seemed intimidating to me, but then once I started, I realized it wasn’t as daunting as it seemed, and that the elephant head was very similar in many ways compared to my squid’s head. The trunk and the tentacles have the same concept, therefore completing this exercise was a useful one. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to take a screenshot and save it, but after completing it, I felt as though the trunk was a key exercise in preparing me fore the actual tentacles.
After the sculpting, baking it into substance was much easier then expected, and learning how to add the different textures and colors with the use of the unwrapped map was good to know how to do.
HOMEWORK:
As I mentioned at the start of this week’s post, I focused on creating the body this week. I found the lecturer’s topology videos very useful, teaching me more about how to model an accurate body. I only really used it to topologize a basic torso, and after watching the video ahead, I figured it out myself how to do the limbs and legs, hands and feet.
Fortunately I didn’t come across many problems this week, the only problem I did encounter was finding a lot of polygons greater that 4 and a few triangles throughout, which I managed to solve by simply deleting a few faces and refilling the edges to create only 4 sided polygons. I did have to leave a few triangles behind due to the fact I couldn’t go without them.
Once I fixed a few problems, my body turned out exactly how |I wanted to and honestly I was very pleased with how the limbs worked out. I managed to keep the topology clean and have accurate limbs that a squid would have.
Although I didn’t do too much this week, the body was the main part I was wanting to get out of the way.
