As I reflect over the recent semester, and my experience working in a group to produce a proper animation, I feel that learned valuable skills . I have gained a sense of what it’s like working together with people I just met, and making our ideas work together in order to produce world idea. I have also built an ability to properly work and communicate with my peers, wether that is calling out any good or bad ideas each of us have or just sitting down over a coffee to discuss what the next steps are. I found that at first, we all had different art styles, some had more of a simple way of drawing, whereas others had a more complex art style. Although that was a bump in the road at first, we found a way to get over that by figuring out simple yet intriguing designs for our characters, but keeping them simple so that not only could everybody maintain a single style, but so our animation could come out as we intended it to. Another way we solved this was by keeping the same color tone throughout most of the animations so even if the style changed slightly, it would not throw the animation off track. Through these challenges, I learned how to solve any issues that came my way, and how to do so in a respectable way towards my peers and their work. If we ever were indecisive about an idea, we learned a way that wouldn’t show any disrespect towards the other people. I think what definite made the process more enjoyable was that everyone got along, and out of all the groups I worked in, the atmosphere felt much more natural in my final group, which definitely added to the experience.
I think if I were to start the module again, I might be a bit more bold with my character designs and ideas, and maybe go a bit crazier with our ideas, but overall I feel as if we had a pretty creative world. I would’ve liked to experiment a bit more, try and test my limits and see how far my art could go, but this time round, I wanted to keep it safe, and me and my team agreed that in order to produce a finished, clean animation, we were best to play it a bit safer this time round. Luckily, I now have the experience I learned from my team and project, that our next project will be an opportunity for us to explore our art styles a bit more.
Overall, I’m very proud and pleased with how my animation turned out, and am excited to see all the animations in our group connected together for an end result. There are however a few things I would do differently. For starters, next time I’m definitely going to try Krita, and I would love to get better at colouring the scenes. The walking in the hallway scene wasn’t my best work, but feel as if the other scenes make up for it. Coloring wise, I used a mix of the palettes we made and some other colors. As this is the first scene before the girl gets sucked in, in order to keep that idea of different worlds, I kept the colours a bit happier in order to give that affect .
In general, I’m very pleased that I got to work in such a good group, and am excited for what’s next to come in this module!
