For our first assignment, we had to choose any three characters of our liking to dissect their forms. I found this incredibly exciting, and I quickly settled in on three of my favourite characters from media. I chose Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2), Toon Link (Minish Cap) and Reigen Arataka (Mob Psycho 100). I chose these three in specific because I really liked their unique shape and attributes. They’re all of very differing art styles, and I wanted to go with the diversity instead of choosing characters that look very similar. I figured it’d help me understand dynamic forms better.

Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2

Dissecting Pyramid Head’s form was incredibly fun. I chose him because I have always really liked how shape-oriented his design was. The triangular shape for his head gives him a non-human quality, and I think it was very affective in not only giving him a monstrous feel, but giving him an overall shape unique to him.

Toon Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Out of all of the Links that appear across The Legend of Zelda franchise, I chose to go with the Toon Link variant. The art style for the Toon games is incredibly distinct and quirky. The use of shapes in his character is evident by the sharp edges used in his design.

Reigen Arataka from Mob Psycho 100

I chose Reigen Arataka because of his more stylised realism form. I liked the way his body was drawn in this art style, and I found that he had an interesting shape.
