This week, we focused on UV Mapping and Texturing. Our assignment this week was the first time we had to create something from scratch, that being a sword. We were tasked with creating a UV Map for it alongside custom textures. We were given assistance with the introduction to UV Mapping and Texturing by testing it on a dice, a Cola can and a hammer provided to us. This helped with giving a feel for how the interface worked, and how we can create seams to unwrap objects to create maps out of. We also were shown how to create custom textures in Photoshop.

Creating The Sword

I found this to be a really fun task. I was very eager to get to apply the knowledge we learned into something original, so when we were given the assignment, I was excited to start. I found it also a bit daunting as I had never fully created something from scratch without assistance. I decided to go for a gothic styled sword, and I used planes with the knife cut, solidify modifier and mirror modifier to create the blade. I created the textures using a stone image as well as drawing designs on top myself using Clip Studio Paint.

For the render, I decided to place the sword inside of a stone.
