Animation for the Creative Industries – Last Minute Additions and Reflection

Walkie Talkie:

This model was talked about a lot as being the in world reason that Tammy (The name later was confirmed as Tammy per Manny’s suggestion rather than Alex for stylistic reasons) I made this model and quickly UVed it based off of an old toy Walkie talkie as seen below before once again passing it off to Owen.

After this it was mainly exporting everything to the right specification and frame rate so it could go into the game okay as I had noticed my animation was previously done on 24fps instead of 30 and I needed to make sure the animation was baked into the model I done this by Alec’s advice and this video as a refresher.

Reflection:

Having never worked on a project of this size before I am very thankful I had the opportunity to give it a go. I am glad I was mainly in charge of the rig as I felt going into it I had the most experience rigging but also I was able to make and be proud of the rig types I made. I know these skills will be of great help moving forwards. While I found my role overall okay because I had concerns with every model that was going to be animated I would like to be more involved with the designs if I were to do something similar to this in future but I am still thankful everyone in the animation course on the team was really understanding and open to feedback. While I did not mention it massively throughout I would like to stress the communication issues between both sides of the team and how on numerous occasions I felt as though I didn’t know what path the game was taking and as though I was not involved with what changes needed to be made to better adapt to those changes. I would also want to allocate more time towards projects like this in future as I felt other commitments meant I was unable to put more time into my side of the work and because of this I felt as though my contribution was less that some of my other team mates and I consistently fell through on sending updates on my work towards the end of the project.

If given the opportunity to attempt this project again I would like to be more involved with the character modelling and narrative design so I would feel more in the loop with the development as well as making sure everyone was more conscious of updates and keeping the entire team in the loop instead of just the games development team.
