Importance of tailoring cvs –
When it comes to creating cvs its important to understand the job description beforehand as the stated requirements the employer has issued out is what they are clearly looking for in an applicant .That is why you should always tailor your cv to every job application that is applied for instead of having one overall generic cv. There are many reasons as to why this is but overall employers want to see that the person who is applying for this role has relevant skills and experiences along with showing that they are actually serious about the job application not only that but many companies use ATS ( Applicant Tracking System) that filters through many resumes at once searching for key words and phrases without having the company to manually read through thousands of cvs
What should a good cv consist of –
Creating great resumes that attract employers is never easy however following the next few steps will most defiantly increase your success of a potential job offer . First of all being clear and concise about your jobs experiences and skills you have gained throughout the years . Even if you haven’t had experience in a professional work environment and you are applying for first time professional work adapt the skills you have gained such as time management skills and team work abilities , Refrain from continuously waffling as the maximum a cv should be no longer than 2 pages. Stating your full name , phone number and your email address should always be at the top of your resume so that employers can keep in contact . During the process of inputting your relevant work experience insure there isn’t any gaps within that will make the potential employer think during that time frame you found finding work hard especially after showing your previous work experience was only 6 months, this can show the employer that you aren’t a hard working person nor do you find working appealing . If gaps between work is down to do volunteering work , school ,university or an illness state so beside the work experience to inform employers of what has happened during this time so they can have a clear view of the reason of being out of work for so long.
It’s also crucial to review your CV on a regular basis and add any new skills or experience that’s missing. For example, if you’ve just done some volunteering or worked on a new project, make sure they’re on there ,potential employers are always impressed with candidates who go the extra mile to boost their own skills and experience. In accordance with the following examples ensuring your cv contains correct punctuation and is also grammatically correct enhances the chance of grasping the employers.
The above is a decent example of how to present your cv , as you can see this person is clear and concise about their recent achievements , education and employment history. Stating is their personal statement what their current position is and what they are looking for whilst also including technical skills they gained through past experiences. Sentences are grammatically correct and functional, Dates of recent graduation ,modules and certificates are clearly shown from when they began do where it ended.
As you can see with this example this person has placed very little effort into the consideration of the format of the cv . Employment and skills are not clear and concise as they do not state during their prior experiences of what skills where developed nor have they developed on the skills of that they have already stated , simply saying excellent communications skills and excellent management doesn’t show the employer anything simply. Simply the applicant should include where and how they have developed these skills to allow the employer to understand clearly if they are right for the part.
Even though this applicant has stated start and end dates to their work experience , they did not include supporting evidence of what they gained through these type of experiences they have only stated what position they had and where they worked . Lastly if you wish to include skills and interests its best to insure they are relevant to the job applicant this is because if the applicant states they enjoy skiing and hiking that is great however this has absolutely no relevance to the job application within an it profession.
