#IXD304 – Experimenting with Brand

Before I start progressing my Apollo 11 project any further, I want to create experiment with the design of my project’s brand with references to the mood board that I have created.

I decided to take a trip to the art and crafts store to try and find something that resembled the colours I want to use in my project. I decided to get various fabrics and other things that are relevant.

Experimenting with colour

I decided to use the material I had to experiment with my colour palette and see how they look depending on what colour they are engulfed/surrounded it. The black could perhaps be used for the background, white used for text or images and red colour be used to highlight certain elements – or just be used to spice up the colour palette,

Additionally, all three colours are relevant to my project as black symbolises deep space, and white & red are symbolic of American patriotism.

I found that the black on red on white works extremely well and is really eye catching.

Experimenting with design

I also cut and traced these fabrics into various abstract designs to try and maintain that sense of minimalism within my project. The red and white fabrics work extremely well on the black backdrop.

Crosshatching Design

Over all other designs, I really liked the cross-hatching technique that I have used:

I then experimented with them, moving and overlapping the fabrics to make this crosshatch design. I really think this works well and reminds me of guides for blueprints or rocketship trails. I am thinking of making this unique abstract pattern a part of my brand.

Conclusion

This brand experimentation has been very engaging and interesting. Not only has it shown me a hierarchy of my colour palette and how colours react differently but it also has opened me up to explore the abstract design of my brand which I will try to include.
