Once I finished my character model on Blender, it was time to texture and color it by transferring it over into substance painter. First I needed to UV map my model. I did this in different sections, taking each part and texturing them through Substance painter separately. I’m still greatly struggling with understanding how UV mapping works, but I tried my best to follow the previous tutorials from the previous assignment.

Seeing as my character has been designed in the style of SpongeBob, I only used flat colors to texture my model as I didn’t feel the need add anything more.

Rigging and posing my model
This is where my biggest trouble came in. Everything had been fine up until I had to pose my model, even after struggling to get my skeleton rig to work since I had my model facing the wrong axis in order to let the bones mirror onto the other side. I eventually understood what was going wrong and was able to mirror the skeleton onto the other side.

Although, I discovered through my posing that something went horribly wrong. For some reason, the jacket part of my model wasn’t working well with the rig, causing my model to deform on a large scale. I tried countless times to solve this problem, and unfortunately couldn’t figure out what was going on. So I made the tough decision to not have my model posed.
