A typeface that I had discovered during my final year was Proxima Nova, having found it during the lyric app project, it has slotted into my day-to-day design process. Released initially as Proxima Sans in 1994 which is now discontinued, featured a basic character set of three weights, Mark Simonson expanded the original into a full-featured and versatile family of 42 fonts. Proxima Nova bridges the gap between typefaces such as Futura and Akzidenz Grotesk, this result is very much a hybrid that combines modern proportions with a very much geometric appearance. It continues to be updated today with numerous currency symbols and symbols relative to that of foreign vernacular such as Greek, Vietnamese and Spanish.
This typeface is what I would call a Swiss army knife, it possesses many tools having over 48 fonts within the family it has helped me create any wordmark for any job whether that be the high-end client or even something more playful or witty, the versatility is unmatched while other fonts lack in breaking the usual structure, Proxima Nova continues to be refined and break that mould.
