For my segment of the French animation group, I decided to pick the movie Kirikou and the Sorceress. I mainly chose this because it’s one of my favourite french animations, I loved seeing difference in cultures and I was obsessed with the book/film whenever visiting my family in France.
First I gathered some information to start off my script, I knew I wanted to cover the film, the production, controversy and the director. I felt all these were relevent to understand the cultural impact it has made in French film and animation. The group generally made decisions on what they individually wanted to cover, Manny taking the task of giving a brief but informative history of French animation for the beginning of the presentation.
I then made a draft of a script asking family and friends to read over to make sure it was clear. As time went on and more information gathered I added to the script, again looking for feedback and making some cuts too. I timed myself but I felt that 2 minutes wasn’t enough to discuss the film, so it ended up being close to 3 minutes.
I then assembled my powerpoint, gathering visual aids and adding some informative text too. I recorded my presentaion using OBS, tried my hand at editing (which I’m not too well versed with) with Premiere Pro. Then sent my first draft to Yuan, after some feedback to a couple of us to make sure the presentation as a whole is consistent, I asked my group what we should do. We decided on making the visual aspect of the presentation look more similar to each others, so I went back and revised my presentation to match those of my group. Once completed I showed inclass to some of my group, then I sent it into a sharepoint that Manny created, so they could compile all the videos together to submit.
If I were to do this task again, I would give myself more time to learn how to edit with creativity instead of necessity. I really liked how Manny did their editing and I would have loved to be able to replicate the same kind of look to make it more cohesive and fun to watch. Another thing I would change is the is my pacing when I speak, I noticed that I rushed some parts no matter how many times I re-recorded my audio, but I think that is due to my lack of confidence in presenting and self recording. But I do recognise the improvement in my presentation skills and editing, as well as researching good sources. The final thing I would change would be sharing more of my progress with my team, I was sick for a bit during this task and I ended up rushing myself into the work thinking I had less time to do it all, I think giving updates of where I was in the progress of making my segment would of let my team help inform me if I was going at a good pace or needed to work a bit more to reach our own deadline.
