I was really looking forward to learning sculpting this semester, it’s an impressive skill I always wanted to try and get familiar with but I was a little weary to start it. I was glad we got some creative freedom with this assignment, there was a lot of ideas I had but as usual I went for the Dungeons and Dragons one. I really enjoy the fantasy genre so getting an opportunity to practice my skills doing something I would genuinely enjoy using or having was really rewarding in the end. I found I was really wrapped up in the details of the sculpt, I have a bit of a perfectionist side which I think most artists do, so having to wrestle with myself to accept that I can’t really create professional quality sculpts right away was hard, but pushes me to try new things to get new results. Like animation I think sculpting takes a lot of patience which I struggle with too, especially at first, so amongst all the rushing and panic of trying to do another assignment, sculpting the Feyote really forced me to take my time, and enjoy the process. All the information, research and references I found online helped me so much during this assignment, and taking any help and advice from other artists via twitter, instagram and artstation only furthers my development as an artist. Next year I want to try and define my 3D style more, leaning toward TRPG minis would be very fun.
