This week we swapped some members of each group around again, I was moved from Group 1 (NeoNoir) to Group 4 (Sugar Prohibition).

The group now includes – Ellie, Ciara, Kharis, Isaiah and myself.

 

During the class the members of Group 4 explained to the newer members the general style, story and ideas that have been brainstormed. We spoke about some animations/live action movies & shows that could lend some inspirations  to elevate the idea of a Sugar Prohibition. We were told that the plot so far is of a Detective that searches for a Mob Boss that is dealing in underground sugar/candy and there is a damsel in distress (Jazz Singer) that needs rescuing. We all pretty much agreed that it is a classic noir storyline and that we didn’t want to fully rewrite the original concept, but we desired more of a exciting twist. We also planned to have a team meeting with as many people that could make it the next week, to discuss any ideas or concepts.

 

During our first discussion of the Sugar Prohibition World Theme we had ideas like:

• Damsel in Distress to Femme Fatale – she is the brains of the operation, the Mob Boss is a front. She is mentioned as an informant which is what leads the detective to see her and then gets double crossed. This story might not end well? I had an idea that the detective is brought to the docks

 

• Bringing some more comical/silly elements to the story: Sweeteasy instead of speakeasy, Candy used in clothing/jewellery for the people that visit, The underground Sweeteasy is the only place that has colour signifying the liveliness from the harsh outside world (Sin City, Pleasantville, Charlie and the Chocolate  etc), Using names that relate to dentistry and candy, figuring out what scenes the characters would visit (Sweeteasy, Docks, Mob Boss mansion, Detective Office etc), Using candy and sugar as weapons, visual gags about drugs and alcohol being less of a threat.

 

• Character name ideas:

 

Detective Max Mandible or Detective Mo Lars.

Mob Boss Pontic (Pontic means an artificial tooth on a dental bridge)

Femme Fatale (stage name, real name?) – Sugar Kane, Tootsie, Taffy

 

We still have questions that we need to discuss such as “why is candy outlawed?”, “Is the candy being cut with another substance like how alcohol could be watered down?”.

Group Meeting

We had meetings this week on monday and tuesday to go over some details, update any new ideas and discuss further world/story elements.

During the meeting I compiled notes on the entires groups opinions and ideas. I share these often in the group chats as moving from group to group weekly, I find it would be useful for the next members to be shown and the current members to keep track of different notes if they need it.

It was difficult this week to get as much as the group together, as different schedules conflicted but everyone was eventually caught up and able to have some input.
