Run Cycle – Review

Surprisingly, I found this animation the easiest out of the 3. I’m quite happy about the secondary animation of the arms bouncing, with the follow through of the elbow and wrists making it look a lot more natural and less static. The legs took a while to adjust and time, but whenever I got it, I liked how it was looking. I then refined it some more, with the hips and torso, bouncing up and down with the movement of the legs as they push off and contact the ground again. I also swivelled the hips slightly, to follow the leading leg on each pass up pose and curled the opposite shoulder of the same leg up pose to create a balance for the model. I sent over my first pass to Alec for feedback and he said it was looking good but to slightly adjust the heels on the downward and contact poses. If I have the time, I’ll make these adjustments but otherwise, I’m happy with my run cycle animation. I polished the animation off by going into the graph editor and setting the tangents to ‘auto (ease)’ so that there wouldn’t be any unnatural movements.
