This week we had a support session with the lecturers. I wasn’t feeling well this week, so I had my session with mike online. I’m running behind again as we ideally should have already had our finished character designs and started to block/sculpt, but I did show off my final 2D concept. Here’s the final concept sheet:
I decided to do some research into the lion dances and watched some videos for reference.
The flames were mainly inspired be Okami’s style.
Mike really liked my idea but said it would be challenging. Since it’s my first time using Blender as well, I knew that it’s a very ambitious decision but I really love how this design came out and I want to see it through.
During the online session, Mike used the swirls and flames as an example of how to sculpt its organic form.
I also drew what my character could look like posed:
The lettuce and ‘Ang Pao’ are traditionally tied up for the lion to eat. Here’s a video of a lion eating lettuce: https://youtu.be/qfUiY0T1pyA
I will start blocking within the next week.
