For the Homework this week we were set to show our understanding of Composition & Perspective by Choosing 3 ‘One & Two Perspective’ drawn over our favourite animations (s).
For my Composition & Perspective HW, I chose to analyse 2 shots each from: ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Spirited Away’.
Figure 1
Fig.1 shows a one-point perspective (OPP) of main character, Miles M0rales travelling down a train track. This is a clear example of OPP and creates an affective composition.
Figure 2
In Fig.2, Miles is shown taking a leap of faith, with the urban landscape shown upside down. This is an example of a three-point perspective, the right/left sides of the buildings are 1-2 of the axis and the top of the frame, where the buildings taper in are the final vanishing point. I personally really like this composition as its unique and carries a feeling of empowerment behind it.
Fig.1 yet is another great example of OPP as there is a clear vanishing point and horizon line. This is one of Studio Ghibli’s most iconic and recognisable scenes and the composition really pushes the feeling of content silence yet alluring eeriness.
Fig.2 shows one of the ending scenes of Spirited Away, where the Bathhouse residents bid farewell to Chihiro. The horizon is the peak of the bridge, whilst the building shows a two-point prospective (TPP). TTP gives depth to a composition, and it was very affective in giving this scene a sense of scale, with Chihiro in the right 3rd, whilst everything else is behind her.
Overall, this was an interesting exercise and I enjoyed analysing different perspectives.
