Recreating Travel Icons

One of Week 1’s tasks was to recreate some travel icons and match them as closely as we could to the originals, this will help me when it comes to designing my own icons for my travel app. I have included images of the original icons (which Paul provided us with) and my own versions below them.

What did I learn?

This exercise helped me gain new design skills which has aided my digital art skillset and overall I enjoyed the challenge of matching them as closely as I could. I learned that my design skills are strong and practice like this is essential, it also reminded me how important consistency is with icons especially as I learned to ensure that all lines were the same width. I started with a few simple icons but decided to push myself to try a few of the more complex forms and I am delighted with the final outcomes. I will complete more master apprentice exercises as I like the challenge and pushing myself to see how far my skills will take me, completing challenging tasks like the one above gives me more confidence within my own design skills and overall as a designer and I actually find them very satisfying and fun to do!
