Point, Line and Plane Exercise

On Monday’s tutorial we discussed point, line and plane. Paul assigned us to create 9 designs for each on Figma. Firstly, I sketched out my compositions of each design and I then transferred those ideas into girds on Figma.

Paper first!

Point

First was the Point. I learned that you are able to build a story with the circles and points you create, starting with one point and progressing to two points. I started out with sketches and when I moved into Figma I started to test the limits with what I could achieve with just two circles. I then moved onto the scale:2,3 and 5 points.

Line

Next was Line and Paul explained that there can be equations used to create compositions and to set the sizes, making it more pleasing to the eye. I was unaware of this and found this really thought provoking. For this particular grid I went for a theme of that the lines all touched and crossed over each other, I liked the result this gave.

Plane

I was then asked to design nine planes nine ways and I enjoyed working with shapes here, I found the playing around with compositions and scale enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise, it got me to think about scale, positive and negative space, symmetry and composition.
