Experimenting with CV layout
I decided to take my sketches and layout ideas that I previously posted and experiment on illustrator with the layout. Have a look at my different compositions below.
Using illustrator
My first idea has my titles and the left hand side and info on the right. I decided to add in a section divider bar in between each section.
This is the same but I removed the grid so it is easier to see my design.
Another idea was the same thing but I removed this line…
Another exploration of this was I took out the smaller lines and drew one long one to divide up the left hand side from the right hand side. I really liked how this one turned out actually, it surprised me.
I then tried putting the info under the titles and I kept this on the left hand side, however this felt way too ‘left’ heavy and just didn’t look right to me. This didn’t feel balanced.
I tired putting lines underneath the titles for this idea to see if it would enhance this any but no it did not. This is my least favourite from the ones above.
Reflection and thoughts
All of the exploration and changes I made to my cv were small but these small changes made such a big difference in the end outcome. I think this experimentation was very useful, I got to play around with different layouts and see how my info would look in different parts of the page. There is only so many ways to experiment with a cv but I tried my best to explore the most realistic ones. I want to keep it simple though and produce the most effective cv. My favourite outcome is the first one I showed above- it’s easy to read and with the right alignment and placement I think its design could end up looking really effective and professional, and personally this layout feels the most balanced.
