Olly Moss
Oliver Moss is an English graphic artist who is best known for his reimagining of famous movie posters, he has worked on many inspiring projects including the cover illustrations for the digital release of J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter books in 2015. He has an impressive client list including Sony Entertainment, Nike, Apple and many more.
I have decided to research Olly Moss for research for my illustration travel app, when I came across his work I really liked the effect he created and overall experience he gives the audience. I especially was fond of his outdoor scenes and how he can generate that outdoor, exploration feeling, I have included his graphic work below that I really like.
Each piece he creates and the colour palettes he choses I think is perfect every time, all of his elements that he chooses to include in his pieces work so well together. I find the above works very calming and relaxing to look at, they make me want to go take a scenic walk.
Trying out his style…
I had a try at his style and I have added my digital creations below, I have created a very simple forest and mountain range. With this first project I wanted to focus on using a Monochromatic colour palette, I have never really experimented with this type of colour palette within illustrations like this before and it was challneging but I like my outcome but I still have a long way to go to get to where I want to be with my illustrations.
the second illustration is more focused on the nice grain effect with simple shapes, I took inspiration from Olly Moss while creating this and I really like the hand drawn, paper feel to it. I really simplified this mountain range as I wanted to focus on the centre larger mountain, the surroundings are softer and more free.

Reflection
Olly Moss is definitely one of my favourite artists I have looked at and I have loved trying out his style, I enjoy his monochromatic colour palettes alongside his outdoor inspiration and themes. Moving forward I would like to pursue his style influence and keep creating art and practice my skills, in the search of finding my own style of illustration. As for my travel app, this sort of style would work great for me I think, using simple shapes and forms and from looking and reaching Olly Moss’s work I have decided I want to go for a warm colour palette for my app.
