How to Draw a Penguin

Oliver Jeffers is a Northern Irish artist, illustrator and writer and he has created this illustrative tutorial on ‘How to Draw a Penguin’, below is an example of Oliver Jeffers’ penguin, and within this tutorial he shows a step by step guide on how to reach this outcome and I thought this would be a fun activity to help develop my sketching/illustrative skills.

I have included images of my attempt below and I have included the step by step process of how I completed this illustration.

Reflection

I am always eager to do exercises and challenge myself to become a better designer and illustrator and this was such a fun task, I enjoyed the humour that Oliver injected into this exercise! From doing this I got to practise shape and form and how simple shapes can be merged to form a more complex and detailed outcome, and I learned how simple steps can eventually turn into a nice illustration; Oliver Jeffers has showed me how drawing really can be that easy.
