Chosen Idea

for my travel app I have decided to go with the topic of gap year travel. Taking inspiration from my previous mind maps I have drawn up some quick wireframes for my travel app and I have added them below, I wanted to get a feel for the overall layout of my app and where to place my illustrations.

I had a lot of different ideas of where I could take this travel app and the idea that I have felt a bigger connection to is the idea of an app based on gap year travel for students. I feel like I can build a really great app that is suited for people my age. I will talk to Paul about this idea and get his thoughts and opinion on it. The next stage was to begin wireframing my ideas!

 Wireframes

Initial sketch

After decided where I want to take this travel app project and what direction I want to go in the next stage is wireframing and I began with a very basic paper wireframe for my app.

More detailed wireframes

I progressed onto more detailed wireframes including some possible illustration ideas and compositions ideas. I did two different versions of the paper wireframes and have included them below.

I changed some ideas slightly with this second wireframe and I think I made the app easier to follow and understand. I really want to work on my ux skills one this project, placing buttons and text in the best places so I create a better more easily useable app. These aren’t all of the screens that the app would have, I only sketched out a handful however I am happy with how it is looking so far and I think that this is something I can definitely achieve digitally.

Digital wireframe

I decided to take to Adobe XD and begin my travel app planning with creating a digital wireframe, I wireframed the very simple version of my paper wireframe as I wanted to start simple and work my way up. I think it was a good idea to start with just simple squares and rectangles as i am now in a better place to begin the actual creation of my app.

What did I learn?

I have decided where I want to take my travel app and what particular subject I want to base it around. The generation ideas is a very important step and I am glad I ventured out and considered more that one design and I think that that journey helped me land on the perfect topic and idea that am I very excited about. The different wireframes has sparked a lot of inspiration for me in regards to illustration and different elements I could consider adding to my app.

What is next?

I will take these ideas and begin more detailed  sketches of the illustrations and countries that I want to include and I am very happy with my wireframes and I think I have generated some interesting and exciting ideas! I have lots to work with here and I am excited to get started with the digital process. I will also do more search about gap year travel and my target audience so I include the best and most suitable destinations for this app.
