Rag
James and I both agreed to try adding a Rag around the tall guys waist as to make Harrys scene a bit more PG. I started a few rough concept sketches of what the rag would look like. Overall I am happy with this design as it is simple and flexible.
Backgrounds & Colour
I felt that before I started creating my background for this scene, I wanted to focus and try to improve on my colour and overall composition ability. As to better understand/ create digital painted backgrounds. I found an exercise to improve on my ability in this aspect. I had to study rendering images using shapes instead of lines, and I had to do it using only two tones. This was incredibly difficult for me.
I started by creating this simple image:
I then moved on to replicating a reference.
(Sinix Designs)
This was my attempt at rendering this reference using only two tones and shapes:
I then proceeded to add a third slightly lighter tone:
Overall, I feel my study could definitely be improved by fixing proportions and stuff. However for the result of an experimental exercise I was very happy with this. I learned a lot from it and I felt a lot more confident to tackle my animation background.
Animation Background 3 Tones:
I started to shade my original background, I thought about where I wanted the lighting to be as well as where the light would reflect. Overall, I feel that for my skill level in making backgrounds this is a great starting point. Although I wish I could have still maintained the other objects still in frame through lighting.
Background Further Textured:
After blending the colours and adding more details I am happy overall with this background. And I feel that I mostly captured what I was imagining.
