Story Boards

When developing this storyboard I tried to keep in mind how I could utilise and benefit from my previous preproduction work. I decided to start off with a scene in which the tall character stands up to reveal his menacing height and form. I thought this would be a good starting point, as I had already done some sketches on this concept, and it had been in my mind since I joined group 9.

I then based the composition and layout of the rest of the scene around this concept. Choosing camera shots which showed off his towering height and highlighting his face.

Overall I feel these storyboards are highlighting the different aspects of the scene I want to be highlighted. And hopefully as a result will be quite effective in terms of being scary and thrilling.

Background Layout Experiments –

I tried to put more thought into the backgrounds and what they looked like, I wanted them to represent the atmosphere of the group movie. while also not distracting too much from the final scene.

We ended up as a group using these backgrounds as a base for the setting of the room.

Animatic

The animatic allowed me to think through my timings and the tone I wanted to set in the scene. I first looked for a scene I hoped to replicate the thrilling aspect of. Which ended up being this scene from IT (2017)

One of the aspects which makes this scene so thrilling is its sound track. I decided to use a similar sounding bass, along with some elements of its backing track to build the rising tension for this scene with sound. I then based my roughs off this sound, and slowly adjusted the timings and the music to make it more effective as I began to understand the tone I was setting more.

Seeing all of our animatics together allowed all of us as a group to better understand each others scenes, therefore allowing us to adjust and tweak to fit together our clip more effectively.
