WHAT IS A USER SCENARIO?:
User scenarios are stories which designers create within a user persona to show how users might act to achieve a goal using a product.
HOW DO USER SCENARIOS HELP DESIGNERS?
Designers create scenarios to understand the users’ goals/ motivations, needs, difficulties, and more in the context of how they would use a design, and to help ideate, iterate and usability-test.
HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT TO USER STORIES?
USER STORYS: A user story is a very short statement that helps describe a users goal. These are completed before user research.
USER SCENARIOS: Scenarios explicitly capture what users would likely experience as they use a product. They help create a realistic image of a variety of potential users. User scenarios are created after doing user research, and only after you research individuals. You create a user scenario within a persona to represent your target users and flesh out their experiences to reflect realistic situations.
WHATS INVOLVED IN A USER SCENARIO?
-
- Who – details of the persona.
- What their goals are.
- When they might perform tasks (including obstacles).
- Where they might do these (including obstacles).
- Why they want to do things, must perform subtasks, etc.
