IXD301 – week 1 – Creating my case studies

In week ones lecture we learned that the number one most important thing a portfolio site should do is present your work in a quick and efficient, eye catching manner.  In order to do this however, each project needs to be introduced in a case-study format, taking the audience through the process in which it was created.

In order to better understand the things a case study should do, i created a mind map of questions:

CREATING MY GENERAL CASE STUDY LAYOUT:

After researching various different case study layouts I’ve decided i will structure my case studies in the following format:

-THE BRIEF/PROBLEM:

In this section I will explain what I’m being asked to do with the project, and the problems I’ll be solving using the product.  This will include a brief paragraph explaining these things and then maybe a photograph of my brainstorming process.

-THE SOLUTION:

this section will include me explaining my research process and how I began to try and understand the problems that needed solving and how I would solve them. I may include photos of my research and exploration of similar content.

MY PROCESS:

This section will involve various numbered sub-sections underneath.  These sub- sections may vary depending on whether the case study is involving branding, illustration, or wire framing.

For wireframing/ illustration:

1.) STARTING ON PAPER:

“I  started by sketching out the layout idea I had for my app. After doing this I was then able to visualise various illustrations and the style/ colour theme I had in mind for it more easily.”

2.) WIREFRAMING:

“I sketched out paper wireframes before moving onto a more refined, digital version.  This helped me to understand the sizing for various things on the screen as well as how the whole app will flow.”

3.) ILLUSTRATING:

in this section I’ll show the illustration process.  I’ll take inspiration from Dshwens case studies and add transition images showing the drawing and design process throughout.

For my branding:

1.)sketching and development (show photos with transitions showing the sketch to digitisation process)

-monogram

-wordmark

-iconset

2.) typography

-headings

-body copy

3.) brand colours

4.) final outcome / touchpoints
