IXD301 – week 1 – Looking at language

CREATING A WORD BANK:

spreadsheet of popular words involved in UX design case studies and articles: word bank

I found this exercise useful when trying to understand what employers look for when reading case studies.  I found the government interaction design job role especially useful for this.  I also looked at the interaction design foundations two pages – “UX Design” and “Interaction Design”.

USING GOOGLE TRENDS:

I looked up words and terms like user experience, UX, user interface, UI, interaction design, IXD, iconography, wire framing, and UX research to see the influx of usage of them in the more recent years, and therefore if I should include them in my website.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED:

  • I’ll try and make use of word banks for future projects (I’ll do this with industry competitors) as it really allows me to understand industry standard language and various terms and wording to use so it resonates as much as possible with the audiences
  • Using certain terms may alienate your audience and also prevent new people from finding your work (such as interaction design or IXD instead of simply saying UX design )
  • I’ll use google trends when wording future projects so I can understand modern, up to date language as much as possible, and so potential future websites will show up for as many searches as possible
