IXD104 – week 6 – Feedback session on app designs

FEEDBACK SESSION ON MIRO

In our week 6 tutorial Paul explained how and why group feedback sessions are critical for a well rounded, effective design.  Peer feedback is when critique is given to a student by other another.  It provides students with the opportunity to learn from one another.  Without feedback people can end up making the same mistakes over and over again without ever realising there is a problem.  Feedback provides designers with a mirror to reflect on their work and performance so they can improve and make affective changes.

Because we couldn’t be in the physical studio Paul created a Miro board for everybody to add their work to.  We added post-it notes around each piece of work in order to give feedback to eachother.

My feedback included that I should continue with the same style of illustration as the one in the 3rd screen.  My typeface was also very legible and worked well with the overall app aesthetic.  I was unsure of the colour theme at the start of this tutorial but others seemed to like the one used.  Someone left a very helpful post-it with a link to a figma link to a theme template by Material design with a range of different effective colour schemes I could potentially use including a dark mode.  Overall this exercise boosted my confidence and left me with a much better grasp of what I should be happy with in my design, continue to use in my design further, and what I could change in order to improve it.

PAULS FEEDBACK

Paul gave me some pointers about what I could improve on and also ideas that he had himself about what else I could add into the app:

  • split up the dinosaur descriptions into paragraphs.
  • smaller, detailed illustrations throughout my dinosaur description underneath paragraphs about the anatomy etc.
  • replace the white, rectangular background in the third screen with an extension of the illustration instead.
  • change the navigation dot to stand out more – maybe turn it black instead of the dark red I have at the moment.
  • include a title screen , introducing the app name and purpose of it.
