GETTING THE SHAPES AND CURVATURE RIGHT:
As I wanted my app to have a friendly and playful tone, I wanted my dig and museum icons to look chunky, cute, and more rounded.
GLYPH ICON STYLE:
I initially settled for glyph style, colour filled icons as this was consistent with my navigation, however I just felt that they blended in too much and looked too boring. They are responsible for the two main features of the app so I want them to stand out as much as possible.
UNDERSTANDING POSSIBLE ICON STYLES IN BETTER DETAIL:
(insert)
LINEAL COLOUR ICON STYLE:
I experimented by putting my icons in a circle (similar to Justas Galaburda’s) but I don’t think it wouldve worked as well in the final app design as there was too much empty space.
After I inserted my icon designs into my wireframes I realised I wasn’t keen on the black outline as it didn’t really fit with the future illustration style I was aiming for. As a result I think Ill remove it in the next few designs.
FLAT ICON STYLE:
I finally created two flat icons for my home screen and I really like the turnout of them. They’re playful and detailed enough to stand out but still fit in the style of the rest of the app.
