Reflection!
This assignment has been so useful in my development as an animator. I feel that I have so much more understanding of movement and knowledge of key functions of blender and animating techniques. Knowing how to properly animate a walk is such a crucial thing, there will be very little one could do in animation where the knowledge of movement, weight, timing and balance covered in these exercises will not come in handy. If I were to go back and do more animations, I would love to try finding an interesting scene with loads of different types of movement, like a chase scene from a film for example, and try to replicate that as closely as possible to really further my understanding of how the human body moves, but I feel quite happy with my work as it turned out.
Something I think I could have added would be to give the faces more movement. I was so focused on getting the body to look right, and by the time it even occurred to me to potentially add expression changes, I didn’t have enough time left to do so. The zombie in particular could have benefited from some movement in the face, a hanging jaw for example. I would also have liked to have taken more time for the hair and tie to make their movement more complex, but again this only occurred to me too late. I also think I need to get a little better at lighting my scenes in a way that makes them look pretty, or perhaps improving them overall by adding more to the background. Another issue is that some of the textures didn’t work, I got around this by retexturing in most cases, but this didn’t work with the eyes. I only noticed this when I rendered my animations as they were fine in the viewport.
Despite these, I am so happy as to how my cycles turned out, especially my run and run and jump. I am looking forward to doing more of these in the future!
