Week 3 Animation Studio: Tone and Value

ThisĀ  week we worked more on our use of value and tone in our art, especially in its application in our group projects. I used a prop of a lamp to demonstrate my use of lighting in tone and then i went further with it and experimented with a full shot from the set I had designed for one scene in the group project. IU think it is a very valuable thing to know, how to properly use tone and value to establish a tone and lighting in a scene.

3D Digital Literacy Assignment 1 overview

Assignment 1, over the first 5 weeks in 3D Digital Literacy has gone very well, I feel like I have learnt a lot in these past three weeks about 3D modelling and getting used to blender and substance painter. I can see a huge improvement in my own modelling over this time, my knowledge of the software and how to use each tool. I have been confident enough to go out of my way to also complete some of the extra tasks of animating some of the models and I feel like I have been putting a lot of effort into some of the small details of my more recent models, like the sword and helmet.

This first assignment has really effectively pushed me to go out of my way to learn more about this software and different ways to get around problems in 3D modelling. Overall I am quite happy with what I have produced over these weeks for this assignment and I am excited to continue on into even more challenging models and learn more about 3D animation, rigging, texturing and more.

Week 5 3D Digital Literacy

In my fifth week we were figuring out substance painter and had to model a helmet. After a while of deciding on one I chose Reinhardt from Overwatch. It took a lot of time to accurately model his helmet and a lot of different reference photos. The UV mapping and porting over to substance painter was just as tough. With all of the different intricate parts of this helmet I found there was a lot to split up for my UV map, but again, after a lot of work I managed to pull it all together in what I would consider an accurate recreation of the helmet.

Week 3 3D Digital Literacy

Firstly, from week 3, here was my classwork, making a drink in a plastic cup. With this work I learnt how to use transparent materials and again use the tools in blender to get specific results for the straw and drink itself.

And here is the homework for that week, following a tutorial on making a zubat and animating it. This homework was good for understanding how to make really fluid and smooth shapes and learning how to better use the animation features.

Week 2 3D Digital Literacy: Tie Interceptor

Here was some of my classwork and my homework for week 2. Here is my finished scateboard from class. and here is my homework for that week, making a Tie Interceptor from Star Wars. Here I really got to refine how I use the different tools in blender to make the wings and the window, which were by far the toughest parts. I learned to use modifiers and more of the edit menu this week.

Week 1 3D Digital Literacy: Snowman

My first 3D class went quite well, I do not have the other practice models in blender from that day but here is my finished snowman model and video. I really tried to use sculpting as much as I could here to get across the more realistic texturing and depth of the snow and wood. I also decided I wanted to try something tough with the animation and get out of my comfort zone right away with having this snowman juggle.

I’m quite happy with how this turned out and think its a good start to my 3D work.
