Colour

In this week’s class we learnt about colour theory.

We learnt that there are four main colour groups that we should look at when choosing colours:

Monochromatic – Colours that are all the same hue

Analogous – Colours that are beside each other on the colour wheel

Complementary – Colours that are opposite of each other on the colour wheel.

Triadic – Colours that have been equally spaced around the colour wheels around 120 degrees apart.

We also learnt that colours play an important role in portraying emotions and tone. Less colour or less vibrant colours could indicate a sadder and more serious/dreary tone.

After learning about what colour could be used for, we were then tasked with creating colour palettes for our world. Using Adobe colour wheel, Chloe and I discussed and decided on our colour palettes that we would use for different colours and environments.

We then took a walk around campus and the nearby area to create palettes from our surroundings. The colours from the pictures ended up being quite dull which was surprising to see just how grey most places can be.

For our homework, we had a two exercises to complete. The first exercise was to take a thumbnail from the previous class and colour it using one of the four colour schemes. (Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary or Triadic.)

The second exercise was to colour the provided landscape using a colour scheme, we would use two colour schemes that would portray two different emotions.
