For our second assignment, we were tasked with creating a Tie Interceptor from “Star Wars”. I was quite intimidated when first viewing the previews but once I got into it, it was easy to follow along with and quite fun once I got into it.
This task introduced me to several tools I wasn’t too familiar with when using Blender, the first was the “Mirror tool”; which now that I’ve been introduced to it, I’ll be implementing it into most of my future projects. The mirror tool is incredibly handy and cuts workload in half. The second tool that I was introduced to was the “Inset Faces” tool, I had usually been doing this manually with loop cuts which made my topology extremely messy but now that I know of this tool I will be correcting my previous workflow.
The creation of the Tie Interceptor was easier than expected, being mostly primitive shapes that have been edited (Cockpit = two spheres, wings = cubes, wing attachments = low poly cylinder). The technique and modifiers used will be helpful in upcoming assignments, I will need to learn how to properly implement these when working on my own projects.
The track animation was the most interesting to learn about as I had been wondering about this for a while, finding out what modifier was used was very useful.
