3D Digital Literacy – Week 3 (Zubat)

For our third assignment, we were tasked with creating a Zubat from “Pokemon”. At first I thought that it would be easy enough to follow along with like the last assignment but I found myself getting a bit lost and frustrated at Blender when completing the task.

I enjoyed getting to use the same tools as last assignment to further my understanding of them but when it came to the wings, I could not understand how to properly adjust the topology to be correct or how to make it flow correctly. The body was easier to follow along with, however the mouth gave me some trouble due to the topology I had given it.

The animation also threw me for a loop as the Zubat kept rotating in a direction that I did not expect it to, I assume it was due to the fact I was rotating it with the auto-keyframe enabled as I did not run into this probably when I was manually keyframing with my Snowman. I will need to experiment more with animating to see if this is the case.

After completing this assignment, I realise that I  need to further my understanding of the tools within Blender and try to understand how more complex shapes are made, while also maintaining a proper topology.
