Tone/Value

This week, most people moved groups but due to how few were in the demon group, I remained where I was.

The topic for this week’s class was “Tone/Value”.  We learnt how both tone and value can change how we perceive forms and depth in an image and how we can use these ourselves. We then used these tones/values on our thumbnails that we created for our world.

Due to the development of our world, these thumbnails changed from last class. Our current idea for our world is for a loner human to summon a “suave” demon so he can have a friend. The human will then show the demon around his world.  Since last class, I had created a Pinterest board for the humans room as this would be the main environment. Since we wanted the character to be obsessed with the occult, I gathered images of rooms that were gothic or cluttered as I felt that this would fit the character that we had in mind. I then used this board as reference when creating the thumbnails.

I then began making more mood-boards, but this time for the characters.

Since we had talked about the demon coming across rather suave but also being rather grouchy and sensitive, I gathered as many images that I thought could fit this. Most of the images included either slicked back hair or a suit which were what we were mainly going for. I also gathered images of characters with hard/grouchy faces as I thought that this would be a good contrasting look when compared to the human who would have softer features. I made sure to also include images that fit the classic demon archetype with the horns and wings.
