Snowman Homework

The first assignment we were given was to make a snowman model and animate him swaying back and forth. Making the model itself was a few simple spheres sized properly, the new challenges for me was learning how to parent one object to another and move the origin of an object. The hat was a cylinder squashed down and extruded. The bits of the face where spheres and a cone adjusted to the right size and shape. For the arms and gloves I made a few cylinders, shrunk them and made them thinner to look more like sticks. The biggest problem I had was making sure everything was parented to the right part, I some issues with parenting the hands to the body and not the arms. For the background element I set up a particle generator for the snow, and made some cubes extruding parts to make the presents. For the tree I used a generator I found the preference settings.

An extra task we were told we could do was animate the snowman waving his hat. I had a lot of trouble with this because I’ve never done something like it. I tried to keyframe the hats movement on it’s own but that ended up looking quite jumpy and awkward.

But overall I’m happy with how it turned out, I like the background elements I added and animated and I am happy with how the models turned out.
