Week 2 – Perspective Homework

For our second week of homework we were tasked with drawing three overlay examples of one and two point perspective, sketching over shots from pieces of art that influence us, and draw six basic thumbnails for a world idea we conceptualised in groups.

One point perspective

One point perspective is a drawing technique that shows how things appear to get smaller the further away they are, converging into a ‘vanishing point’ on the horizon. Diagonal lines drawn from the vanishing point overlap with objects in an image, with helps makes the whole shot appear 3D.

Master studies thumbnails

For the thumbnails part of the homework I wanted to do shots from animations, to help learn how animated shots would be composed and laced out. I also chose shots from some of my favourite animated works because I’m more familiar with interesting shots from them.

Group World Thumbnails

Our group had settled on the idea of an alien world, with a cute alien lumberjack travelling to a weird world with strange flora and fauna to get wood. I wanted to do several shots throughout this aliens workday, to show the process and routine. So I drew out scenes of him having breakfast, driving to work, having a lunch break, and encountering ‘workplace hazards’.
