Reflection on the year so far
When I started this course I had had some experience using Blender. I had followed some online tutorials and did a VFX course with BFI over the summer. I learned some skills that have been very good to know in this course. The basics of modelling and materials, key frame animation, rendering and even using things like Particle emitters and texture nodes.
I did not realise fully just how much more there was to Blender, and how it could be used together with other programs like Adobe and Krita. The first few homeworks we were given were not much trouble. The skateboard, pot plant and drink were good for reminding me about techniques I had forgotten about. Although I had never used the Bezier curves before. The UV maps were completely new to me. I did not have an adobe license before University so I had never unwrapped a UV map to apply textures before. The practice test we were given with the hammer was incredibly helpful. For the helmet task it was another brand new thing. Exporting to Adobe Paint to apply textures has taken some getting used to.
I am enjoying the course a lot, I’ve learned far more than I expected to already and I’m really looking forward to the next projects.
