This week I started working on my final model to be used within the animation. I uploaded by reference images into Blender and used a cylinder to make the body of the character, reducing the face count of the cylinder to give it a more low poly look. Overall I’m happy with the way the model turned out and the accuracy that it shares with my reference sheet.
As we wanted to add ‘drawn-on’ textures I had to unwrap my model which would allow me to use the Texture painting option in Blender, it took me a few tries before successfully unwrapping the UV’s but I do feel that I am improving in this area.
I shared a few tutorials for texture painting into our group discord which I referred to while painting the textures onto my model I also shared a video on camera lenses that I felt would be useful for the previsualization process. I’m happy with the way the model looked out but I found it difficult to navigate the texture painting workspace so for the final design I decided to use Substance Painter for texturing as I have a better understanding of the software.
I was given the task of modeling different types of jars that will sit within the bakery. Originally I started off by doing some rough drawings in my sketchbook, then I started looking at different images of jars and gathering ideas for my prop. I experimented with different types of face counts for the cylinders, first I started off with a face count of 16 but I felt that this didn’t fit with the low poly look that we wanted to give the animation, for the next two jars I used a face count of 8 which would fit better with the low poly aesthetic
For our previsualization the group looked at our storyboard and split it into different segments which allow each member of the group to contribute to the previsualization. I was given the ending scene which I found easy to complete. I am pleased with the final result although I’ll have to make some changes to make it more accurate to the storyboard.
During this call we also discussed a rough schedule for our production.
