This week we gave our first pitch for our 3d animation project, detailing any rough designs and storyboards that we had to the rest of the class. Our presentation went well and we don’t have to change too much in regards to the storyboards or character designs, our main feedback came from the character for the rolling pin as we didn’t give any context as to why the character was the villain. When we finished the presentation we talked about ways we could change the character. From this discussion we made it so that the rolling pin has no control over their actions and is more of a sympathetic character rather than an evil one.
I then continued developing my character, this time focusing on the colour palette, taking inspiration from different pictures of croissants and adding some details such as icing sugar and sprinkles to the character. Once I had created different colour variations for the character I showed it to the rest of my group for feedback.
From the feedback I decided it was best to add a fifth variation for the character by combining my second and third designs. In the end I preferred this variation compared to the others so I decided to use it for my final design.
Our group then organised a discord meeting to iron out any issues with the story, once this was finalised I typed out the script for our idea. We then made a list of things that we need to work on, such as design ideas for the bakery and concept art/models for props that we want to include within the animation. I made a list of prop ideas and added any ideas that the other’s had into it. Zoe then made a to-do of things that had to be completed for Wednesday for our next discord meeting.
After our first meeting I started working on two concepts for the interior of the bakery, taking inspiration from our collaborative Pinterest board. I decided to hand draw my first concept to practice perspective drawing which is an area that I want to improve on, for my second concept I decided to make it in Blender.
On our next call we started discussing final designs for the layout, which was a task that we struggled with as we couldn’t figure out what would work best for the animation. To resolve this Joyce created a shared canvas that we could all draw on in order to come up with a final idea. Once a final idea was worked out Eve made a cleaner version of the sketch.
