In one of our workshops we made small scenes with different plants and vegetables. As we looked at these mini scenes through a viewfinder, we painted them with ink and gouache.
I’m very inspired by Art Nouveau in my style, so I made sure to study some examples from that movement. I specifically took inspiration from Alphonse Mucha. I found 2 of his pieces and recreated their compositions with my own characters and some colour changes.
For one workshop we were asked to draw people from real life, then later we painted one of the figures on a wall in the illustration space. As a warm up, we drew characters on the windows with tape.
I was really inspired by old Barbie illustrations with my style because I felt like dolls are very decorative in nature, with all the clothes and accessories. I did one sketchy study of a Barbie illustration (on the left) and then made some further drawings inspired from that (every other piece).
I chose my theme to be decoration, so I brainstormed any ideas I associated with it.
Here is some of my planning for my gouache piece.
I was planning out the composition and colour scheme for my final A1 work below.
