Photography Day 2

My Photobook is meant to represent the melancholy side to student life. I begin my book with a photo of my mother followed by my bed, a place of comfort and familiarity. The next pages depict a party and celebration, a louder and more crowded experience, which is why I decided to place so many pictures on these two pages. The following pictures are are meant to be more serene but still have that bit of pensive energy to represent moments of peace combined with that sort of sadness. The final photo is a childhood picture of myself with my dog, this is just to close the book off with a jump back to the past before my Uni experience.

Photography Day 1

With the materials given to us and limited time we decided it would be best for us to create a scene.

This lead us to these photos that depict a fridge in the centre of a surreal environment. The inspiration for our work in this group project was based largely on the idea of unnatural objects (such as a fridge) in a natural setting and having nature reclaim.

Since we created just a small scene using scraps and string, we used the method of microphotography to get close up images to almost insert the viewer into this bizarre world.

To create the coloured lights that I have in each video, I used my projector to cast changing lights over each of the objects/actions I was filming. I did this because I felt it would make the videos more visually interesting and would make all the videos together more cohesive.

To get to the ideas of these videos I started with a mind map where I used random onomatopoeia and verbs until I came to a conclusion on videos that would relate to the words I came up with. For example, the word ‘Sweep’ led me to ‘Brushing’ and then that became the video of me applying mascara excessively.
