Contextual Studies

Jackson, P.  Folding Techniques for Designers – From Sheet to Form. 2011

My interest in this book by Paul Jackson which I learnt about through my Product Design class is a great book which displays and encourages me to look at the ideas in simplify shapes to make a stronger impact with the play in folds and use of light. Manipulating the shapes and light this way creates lots of tones and deep. This book offers us a simpler way of learning of to produce a sculpture. ‘I was amused and bewildered by his more artistic endeavors that played with form and shadow’ (Daniel Stillman, 2011) I agree with this book review as the book was a way to get people to play around like he does.

Zaha Hadid, Beko Masterplan, 2012

My interest in this work by Zaha Hadid which I learnt about through my Ceramics class. It is such an eye-catching piece that captures your attention to look at the swirls to the dips and valleys. It has such an interesting form of fluid shape and being connected but that cut in layers to create an amazing perspective through it. ‘Her drawings of the project and subsequent paintings experimented with layering and fragmentation, attaching program and structure to the forms outlined by the Suprematist works.’ (Lynch, 2019) I agree with this opinion on her work as I love the layering technique in her work.

Ken Eastman, Days like this, 2013

My interest in this work by Ken Eastman which I learnt about through my Ceramics class is such a delicate piece that looks like a piece of paper that has been bent. This piece is so gentle made even clearer by the mix of materials to really help bring out the different tones and texture in material. ‘I am interested in the relationship between colour, the illusionistic space of a surface and actual space’ (Surducan, 2013) I like how he talks about his work in the interview about the texture he creates with the atmosphere and materials.

Pauline Barendse, 2012

My interest in this work by Pauline Barendse which I learnt about through my Metal and Jewellery class as it is such an interesting piece that is very rough and raw in shape and style but is smooth and soft in feel, it looks as if she has cut or chipped away at the metal to reveal underneath. ‘Feel the pleasure I have in creating'(Farlang, 2012) this is what she has said about her work, and I understand it when looking at her work that the presence of the metal you can see.

Product Design

These are the paper sculpture I created in day 1.

These are photos of one of my pieces being manipulated to explore the ways to add to it or progress it.

This sculpture is the same idea of one of my first that I layered up and with the corners of the pages cut off to see how that would look and I prefer it without it being cut so I did another version without cutting and like that more, its seen below.

Here is the cut and uncut beside each other.

I then made a larger version of another, doing multiple and putting them together.

Textiles Art and Design Fashion

This is my mood board I created for the class digitally.

These are the 5 collages I created on day one of TADF, 4 made out of paper and 1 out of fabric based on my mood board I created.

These are photos of us as a group creating a dye bath and adding our fabric in. With the final results from the dying.

These are photos of me weaving with different fabric strips and then tying it off.

This is the jeans piece that I embroidered into the wave which is part of my theme.
