I decided to write up an essay about the rise of indie animation in the animation industry as I felt that it would be an interesting topic that I am passionate about and it’s a relatively new thing right now. I got some notes during my summer break.
Our tutor told us to narrow our topic to be specific so I had to brainstorm how my question of indie animation would work as a dissertation. It changed from how indie animation is becoming more common than mainstream animation to why animators are choosing to pursue indie animation instead of working in a studio to finally settling on how indie animation gained the attention of our current generation instead of mainstream animation.
She also told me to try to get scholarly books and articles for my project as it would help me with my case as I could translate the info into it and I’m not sure the sources of my reading list are viable as they’re mostly from YouTube videos.
Week 2
Tutor told us what sources to use when we’re gathering research for our referencing list so I’ll be using google books and google scholar.
Downloaded the dissertation research proposal
Started my proposal
Had issues trying to put the links into the reading list; the table might have been the cause for the error. Asked my classmates for help and one told me to add a textbox to paste the link.
Week 3
Yuan, our subject tutor, announced that due to staff shifting the deadline for the research proposal was pushed back a week.
Our class showed us how to write our proposal.
I had trouble trying to write a title and a brief literacy.
Week 4
Showed my ASD mentor my current progress for help.
Showed my current progress to Sarah and asked if it’s ok to reference books you intend to use but don’t own. Said it’s ok. I also found out you have to link where you bought the book so I used google books to find links to put. She also told me to save up what I wrote originally in the brief literature section for the dissertation.
Asked if you have to own the ebook if you want to reference it for reading list, says they didn’t do that with their research proposal.
Used multiple Harvard Referencing guides to clean up reading list so it’s a bit confusing for me to tell if I did it right.
Week 5
Proof read my work
Worked along with my ASD mentor to clean-up the wording of my proposal
Finished the reading list
