Post Production
Before bringing my model into unreal engine I made a simple rig to pose my character. This was very quick and straightforward, in contrast with what was soon to come.
Unreal Engine was problematic for me pretty much immediately as I struggled to import my character despite following the steps of every tutorial I could find. At first when I would import my model it would say it was successful but my model wasn’t visible. Then only partially visible, then it would be fully visible but larger than the environment. After fixing the scale in blender it finally imported normally but I didn’t figure out in time how to use the rig within Unreal.
I found Unreal Engine difficult to navigate in general and my laptop struggled with it too despite being a good gaming laptop. I knew I wouldn’t be able to make a scene myself in time so I found a free environment on fab that looked close enough to what I had envisioned. This was when I started getting various error messages about video memory being exhausted despite disabling lumen and ray tracing to try and avoid this. Nonetheless I was able to import the environment and position my character where I wanted. I also received a few different error messages about the lighting as I struggled to adjust the lights in the environment. When I removed them and tried adding my own I was able to move them around the scene but they didn’t seem to produce any light. I also don’t know why the water looks to flat and grey as it looked much better on Fab. Despite all these issues I couldn’t resolve I think it looks okay in the end.
