This week in class the lecturers discussed art styles and I had to go to my animation for the creative industries team to discuss different art analysis styles in different shows and movies.

I got together with Sean and Luca and we discussed different options for media that we could choose from A list of questions was provided to further understand what kind of work we had to do to create our art guide.

I started off by choosing my favourite animated show which is Bob’s Burgers and began discussing with the guys how to answer which one.

Bobs Burgers

  • Young adults and teens
  • Simpsons, family guy
  • humour and light-hearted mood
  • Whacky and unserious, fun
  • Easy to watch—–worse—– sometimes the animation is too simple
  • Rounded body, spaghetti arms, simple expressions

Next, I wrote Luca’s answers down, he chose a different show which was ‘Hazbin Hotel’, a show which I had not seen but it was interesting seeing the different answers he had for this style and what I could answer by looking at clips and images taken from the series.

  • Young adults
  • Bojack, South Park
  • Drak comedy
  • Fun, characters suit design
  • Switches to evil side better than other shows— worse—-?
  • Skinny figures, thick heads, sharp features

Although he couldn’t think of anything it does worse and I don’t know the show too well, by looking at the images I could add that it seems like the show is very red, every scene contains a lot of red colouring which can be a little bit off-putting sometimes and often the background looks a little muddy with that choice of colouring, but again, I have not seen the show so I can’t say If that’s the case for every scene.

After the break, we reconnected with the game design class. Luca, Sean and I had been discussing the colour issues we’ve faced with the team, they don’t seem to listen to any of our opinions and even when Luca tried discussing the issue they turned our concerns down instantly. We presented work to the clients and in our section of the PowerPoint we included the colour choices we wanted that would work with our style which the games design team were obviously not happy about as they cut the access to the PowerPoint minutes before the presentation so we couldn’t add any more.
